Iceberg Alley, Antarctica
Iceberg Alley sure lives up to its name!

Dawn comes early in Antarctic summers. We were told we'd be entering Iceberg Alley around 5:30AM, but at 4:15, I awakened to the first hints of dawn and an iceberg entirely filling the view from my window. Neeedless to say, I quickly dressed and went outside to view this spectacular morning. The colors in the sky, reflecting on the water and bergs, was astonishing. Huge tabular bergs everywhere you looked. The wear patterns on the bergs gave them each personality as you got closer Anyone else want to say The morning had been cold and a bit windy, but as we sailed farther south, we approached a storm front, and the winds whipped up. At one point, the winds topped Force 10, and it became apparent we were going to have to turn around. We had an almost solid wall of ice ahead of us being driven by the wind. As we left to proceed to Admiralty Bay and Arctowski Station, the weather calmed a bit and the mists came in. Regardless of how you viewed them, at sunrise, in a storm or through the mists, the icebergs of Iceberg Alley are stunning!
