Gerlache Strait and Neumeyer Channel
The gorgeous Gerlache Strait and Neumeyer Channel run along the Antarctic Peninsula down to 65 Degrees South.

Another day dawned clear and beautiful as we sailed along the Antarctic Peninsula down Gerlache Strait toward Neumeyer Channel. Some of the bergy bits had interesting patterns. This one almost looked like it had been cross-cut. Looking forward, couldn't see how we were going to navigate through all the bergs and bergey bits, but our wonderful captain and ice pilot steered the ship expertly and with fine adjustments to get us through. Several times during the day, we passed by bergs on which Gentoo penguins rested. This was the passage we had to navigate to get to Neumeyer Channel Bits of brash ice covered the channel. Brash ice are the bits and pieces which break off the larger bergs as they begin to disintegrate. The currents carry them in these streams. At times, the seas and winds were so calm, the only ripples were from our wake The channel marker between Gerlache Strait and Neumeyer Channel. Also marking our farthest point south at 65 Degrees South Beautiful Antarctic Peninsula So with the magic of Photoshop, voila! Penguins playing in the pool and on the berg! Since I was putting something which didn't naturally occur in this picture anyway, I included Magellanic and Chinstrap as well as the local Gentoo penguins in the picture. Absolutely beautiful berg with a perfect pool just under the surface. Doesn't it seem like penguins belong in here? Another penguin berg, this one however is shown in its natural state. Final look at the Antarctic Peninsula.
