Deception Island, Antarctica
Deception Island - an active volcano whose caldera core formerly sheltered whaling ships.

Smaller ships, such as this, can actually enter the caldera and passengers can This Polish ship was quite picturesque. It seemed to suit the island and its history well. There are several large Chinstrap penguin colonies on this island. As you can see, the penguins climb quite a distance up the mountain to find their prime nesting location. All those dots are penguins. Of course, can't resist the jumping penguins. The island is covered in glaciers, but they look dingy gray because of the ash which is emitted by the volcano. Our final stop in Antarctica was at Deception Island. It was commonly used as a harbor for whaling boats, this island is actually a volcano, with this bay the submerged caldera (similar to Santorini).
