Back to where the ship was docked at the entrance to the Lesser Gorges. You can still see some of the remnants of the "old" city at the bottom, and the new apartment blocks above. Our guide and many other guides all said they were proud of their new apartments which they purchased with the assistance of a loan from the government. Definitely a change from the old Communism. Private property rights - and the citizens embracing it! One other fascinating fact this picture illustrates and which was repeated proudly by several guides - right now, 1/2 of all the large construction cranes in the world are in China. You can see how much building is going on, not just on the river, but everywhere.
Want to thank Judy Ivison for allowing me to use so many of her images. I was running quite a fever here, so was unable to fully participate or enjoy.
